Palliative Care Advocate Receives “Genius Award”
September 2008
We extend our congratulations to Diane E. Meier, MD, who was a 2008 recipient of the “genius awards” presented each year by the John D. & Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation.

Meier is director of the Center to Advance Palliative Care and professor of geriatrics and medical ethics at Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York.

The award marks a significant personal accomplishment for Meier, and an even greater step for the palliative care movement. The $500,000 award translates into increased visibility and research for this growing field of medicine, which focuses on addressing medical, emotional and spiritual care for those suffering from a serious illness.
