Music Care Services

Music has proven to be a powerful tool to provide pain relief and to ease anxiety and depression.

Music therapists and music-thanatologists offer music, from the relaxing to the engaging, at the bedside of Midwest CareCenter patients.

As patients and families cope with serious illness and end-of-life issues, music presented by a skilled clinician in this way can address many particular needs.

Music therapy
Using a variety of techniques, music therapists can help you:
  • Find ways to cope with difficult symptoms.
  • Express feelings that you may encounter.
  • Reminisce about important life experiences.
  • Write a song as a legacy for loved ones.

Music-thanatology
Drawing on their clinical and musical skills, music-thanatologists:
  • Use harp and voice to address physical, emotional and spiritual suffering at the end of life.
  • Weave together musical elements in response to changes in physiology, such as pulse and respiratory rate.
  • Alternate sound and silence throughout a visit (music vigil) to help you and your loved ones rest and relax.

What about the Cost?
We provide Music Care Services as an additional benefit while you are receiving hospice care. Because these services are supported by donations, there is no cost to you for music therapy or music-thanatology.
